The Perfect Chair for Places Where People Gather
Our goal was to create an environmentally friendly chair with a simple and timeless design and optimal seating comfort.
Collaboration with ITO Design
Targeting co-creation spaces that require stylish solutions, e.n.a. was born from our collaboration with ITO Design where the goal was to create a chair that could represent Okamura's existing lineup. ITO Design is a German design firm that has produced a variety of furniture designs and received numerous design awards. To create a classic look, particular emphasis was placed on achieving the appearance of seamless unity between the shell and pipe leg frame.
Taking Seating Comfort Seriously
How can something be made super-lightweight whilst still honoring the design and maintaining its strength? The development team wracked their brains over this question. They made prototypes, checked the structure, checked the comfort and smoothness of the reclining motion, and then looked for places to shave off weight. A significant shift in thinking seemed necessary. Andreas Krob and Joachim Brüske came to Japan to work on the strategy together.
